Pew pew pew motherfuckers!

As any fans of this series will have realised, we have been well behind in posting up photos from the latter stages of the project. It is for now wrapped up with the release of Episode 8 (which will be later on tonight). So without further ado I thought I’d just share a load of photos of everything else I haven’t posted before. Unfortunately I won’t be breaking them down month by month or telling you who failed what month – listen to the show for that. Just enjoy some pretty photos.

Thanks for looking!

Pew pew pew motherfuckers,

Here are some photos for you to enjoy whilst listening to Episode 6 of the show. Remember we had to paint an Elite choice as well as a Fast Attack choice for Month 3. We are past the halfway point now, so lets see how everyone is getting on…

Hey,

Just a quick one today guys. After a chat with our sponsor, Byron Orde from www.elementgames.co.uk I have reordered the Month 2 blog post so that it flows better with Episode 5 – namely putting the armies in the order they are discussed on the show.

Hope that makes for a better and more interactive experience.

Ok…Its all well and good calling this thing an audio blog, but without updates it sort’ve fails, right? So, only about a month late, but finally you can feast your eyes on the fantastic work we all produced during Month 2. Unfortunately The Joe dropped out at some point during this month, so no more Space Wolves to share.

So without further a do, here are photos of what everyone painted in Month Two. For this month we had to paint a HQ and a Troops choice, including all relevant add-on’s and Dedicated Transports. I have included small bits of blurb that some of the participants submitted. Obviously for me and Gary you can listen to Episode 5 for our thoughts! Apologies for the quality of some of the photos.

“I still don’t like painting raiders but that’s the second one all done. Month 2 has allowed me to spend a little bit of time on my Archon and I am particularly happy with the Agoniser and cloak. The Warriors took a little extra work as I couldn’t decide on the helmets but I think the gold has worked well.”

“This month was a real challenge. After the first month of 12 Warbikers, I knew what pain this month’s 12 Warbikers held! I decided to paint Wazzdakka first to get the ball rolling. It’s a lovely model from Forgeworld. I am happy overall with it, though I feel I may have done to much rust. I then decided to make and paint the 12 bikers in 3 days! Managed it and here are the results;”

Aaron Bailey – Eldar

“That’s all the guardians done, so it should be interesting getting into the Aspect Warriors in future months to add some different colour schemes. Glad I don’t have to do any more white! Pretty happy with how things have turned out and was great to see them on tabletop with Jan’s fully painted Month 2 stuff for the first time.”

“So month two was a tricky month for me as I suffered from a bad case of painters block. Originally I was going to paint some Cultists as my troops choice, but no matter what ideas I had, I was never happy with the finished product. Then I had the same trouble with my Daemon Prince… But! Four weeks later and I have finished! First up is my Daemon Prince Kora’Van’eth. Formerly Jarod the Blackened of the 16th Legion. I had originally planned to paint him with pale blue skin, but as time went on I felt that he just was not looking right. Eventually I decided to go for a more “default” scheme and settled on red, which I feel suits the model much better! Next up is a small unit of Plague Marines, Although I had planned to replace these guys with Cultists, lack of time and my love of these older minis meant I had to include them.”

Pew pew pew motherfuckers!

It occured to me (after a few prods on Twitter) that I really needed to be sharing some photos of what we are all getting up to in this project. This should complete my aim of making the Tale of 40K Gamers Podcasts a sort of audio blog.

So without further a do, here are photos of what everyone painted in Month One. Remember we had to paint a Troops choice as well as a Heavy Support choice. I have included small bits of blurb that the participants submitted. Obviously for me and Gary you can listen to Episode 2 for our thoughts! Apologies for the quality of some of the photos.

I choose the Gargoyles and the Termagaunts because I wanted to get half of my chaff out of the way and give myself a good head start model-wise. Painting wise here’s what I did:

Skin was a base coat of Baneblade Brown, followed by a shade of Athonian Camoshade and then I highlight of Baneblade Brown and Ulthuan Grey 50/50.

Carapace was a base coat of Castellan Green, followed by a line and edge highlight of Skarsnik Green and a finer highlight of Moot Green.

The orange is done with a Troll Slayer Orange with a shade of Athonian Camoshade to add depth.

Teeth and eyes done with Ulthuan Grey.

Saying that I really enjoyed painting the gargoyles and trying new things on the wings which has aided me in painting one thing in particular for month 2.

“For my month 1 choices I went for a unit of 9 Wyches in their Raider and a Talos. The Wyches were my first troop unit simply because I had the models. The Talos was a model I wanted to paint very early on to ensure I could fit in the paint scheme.

The Models have been painted in a simple dark scheme with some brighter colours. All the metal areas have been painted Ironbreaker washed with a 1:1 mix of Abaddon Black and Nuln Oil, and then edge highlighted with Mithril Silver. Most areas have then been kept black. Gems and pipework have been painted Hawk Turquiose and all hair painted orange. I have loved painting the models so far, bar the Raider; I am really out of practice painting large flat areas. Luckily I have a lot more vehicles to paint…Roll on month 2!”

“I really enjoyed the poseability of 40K models and not having to rank stuff up. Basing was fun to do as well. I knew the paint scheme I wanted and was happy with the results. Painting the tank was strange, airbrush was really helpful for a smooth coat and really quick. The best part was having the iMessage chat to keep motivation with some healthy banter and seeing others progress. It kept it really interactive. Overall I’m really happy so far and can’t wait to play some games. Pew pew!”

“So I went for the Black Legion mainly because I wanted to update my old army, but also because I wanted to show that they are not a dull army to paint. Hopefully I’ve managed to achieve that!

With the first squad I spent about a while posing each marine, to get across that these guys have been through roughly 10 000 years of warfare and treat most battlefields with casual indifference. Paintwise, I went for a dull bronze rather than gold for the shoulder trims as I felt that anything brighter would make the models look to ‘busy’ with the yellow or red spot colours.

I’m not to happy with the bases if I’m honest. I wanted the barren desert look, but I feel that i should have put some more rocks or bones on their just to break it up a bit.”

So I hope you guys enjoyed the eye candy, and be sure to check back for more soon!
